Welcome to Miss Parker's 8th Grade Language Arts Class

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Dedicated Student Influencers,

Welcome to a new school year!  My name is Miss Parker, and I will be your student’s language arts teacher.  I am thrilled to be starting a new semester and cannot wait to get to know both my students and the people who influence them the most—which is of course you.

Allow me to share with you my vision for the classroom.  It is my mission to prepare all of my students to be at or above proficient level in writing when they go on to high school next year.  This means that the “theme” of our class is we are on the college track, and throughout the year your student will be making concrete gains toward academic and behavioral goals in order to prepare them to be first high school and then college-level writers and students.

I know we cannot make these goals without the help of student influencers like parents, grandparents, and guardians.  For that reason, I believe it is vital that I keep lines of communication open.  First, I will be making contact with you by phone in the first few weeks of school to introduce myself and hear your thoughts and concerns.  Please feel free to contact me as well with any questions or concerns at any time.

I will also maintain this website for our class.  On the site you will find the homework assignments, information on what your student is learning, and general info on classroom projects.

Finally, at the conclusion of each writing project (approximately every 6 weeks), I will be hosting a student presentation night at the schoolYou are welcome to join us to learn what your student is doing and to voice your views and opinions to the group.  Our final evening will include a College-Bound Pledge signing ceremony, in which all students who meet their academic and behavioral goals for the year will sign a pledge saying they will stay on the college track through high school.

I look forward to speaking with you and to working together to bring our students to success.

Miss Parker
